Director of Library Services

 

The Hiram S. Walters Resource Centre is seeking highly-motivated and qualified applicants for the position of Library Director.  The Director will supervise a staff of thirteen employees in the provision of  a wide range of library services. The position exists on the Mandeville Campus. 

 


Role Expectation

 

As Director of the Library Services you will be privileged to contribute to the academic and strategic goals of the university through the effective management of the library functions which includes service to students, faculty, and staff as the top priority. We will expect you to be responsible for the efficient management and operation of the library; ensure the availability of all resources and empower  clients to utilise the  available resources to meet their needs; create and implement policies and procedures that are in the their  best interests; ensure that the facilities are clean, safe and conducive to research and study.

We will embrace your skills in the following areas:

  • Align the library mission and goals with those of the institution and provide the leadership, planning, development and evaluation of library services in support of those goals.
  • Support research at Northern Caribbean University.
  • Develop the library’s collection of books, journals and online resources to meet the academic and research needs of both students and faculty.
  • Administrate the library’s annual budget and monitor expenditures.
  • Manage library services, resources, and personnel.
  • Participate in strategic planning, developing new initiatives and setting priorities.
  • Serve as a liaison librarian for one of the colleges/school.
  • Facilitate an increasing adoption of electronic resources.
  • Provide library instruction:  Instruct faculty and students in research and how to use and evaluate information.
  • Work with academic deans to design library research assignments in support of the curriculum

  • Must have thorough knowledge of library practices and procedures
     
    Qualification and Experience
    A minimum of the  MLIS/ MLS Degree, with a minimum of four years’ experience in an academic library is required.

  • Possess extensive knowledge and experience with library practices and procedures.
  • Have the ability and experience to manage support services for academic and research environment for students, faculty and researchers.

  • Possess oral and written communication skills
  • Be an excellent team player

Lecturer in Literatures in English

 

The department of Humanities is inviting you to apply for the position of   lecturer in Literatures in English on the Mandeville Campus. When you join us you will be privileged to contribute to our well-established suite of BA courses.

Role Expectation

The Department expects you to ensure an outstanding student experience through your relevant and stimulating teaching-learning, support and evaluation techniques. Your teaching activities will be further enhanced by your initiative, research involvement, enterprise, scholarship, and integration of faith and learning within your area of expertise.  You will also provide personal advisement and mentoring to assigned students. Additionally, there will be opportunities for you to lead in projects, faculty organization/s and to be a sponsor of student clubs.

We will embrace your experience in a wide area of Literature, including Survey of British Literature, and Survey of Literatures in English; Victorian, Romantic and Postcolonial Literature. You are also likely to contribute to our Freshman Composition programme. Holding at least a second degree or higher degree in a relevant discipline, you will have adult teaching experience in our Centre of Excellence for professional growth. Your visible ability to apply and exchange knowledge through teaching and other activities will be an asset to you and the university family. College of Humanities, Behavioural and Social Sciences

  • Two Lecturers in Media & Communication Studies 
Reporting to the Chair, the incumbents will be required to: deliver courses at the undergraduate level; advise and guide students; participate in curricula and course development; conduct student evaluations; engage students in experiential learning as guided  by the Department Chair,
and play an active role in the research agenda and the strategic direction of the Communication Studies  Department.

Qualification and Experience Required

Candidates should possess a Master’s Degree or Doctoral degree in media and communication or any other related field from an accredited university and must have practical experience in the area of media and communication.   
  • Lecturer in French

Qualification and Experience Required


Candidates must be able to teach the theory and practice of translation. Must hold a Master’s or PhD degree in French or a related discipline and have native or near-native competence in French. Demonstrable experience in the teaching of French as a foreign language and of Francophone Culture, at undergraduate level, using a dynamic, communicative approach in a technologically integrated environment. A capacity to facilitate such integration is highly desirable.


College of Allied Health and Nursing 
  • Two Nurse Educators 
The incumbents will be required to teach courses at the undergraduate level of the nursing programme in the class room, laboratory and clinical settings. The incumbents will also be required to play an active role in the research agenda of the Nursing Department

Qualification and Experience Required

Master of Science degree in Nursing Education; current registration as a nurse and midwife with the Nursing Council of Jamaica with related clinical experience; at least one year’s teaching experience in a basic nursing education programme and current certification in CPR


Director – Western Regional Campus

The incumbent will give general management of the campus resources & the overall administration of staff, contract personnel and clients.  Acts as a liaison between the main campus and the extension sites for flow of information, supplies and equipment. 

Qualifications and Experience
PhD in Education Administration or Master’s Degree in Education or Management. At least four years managerial experience in an academic institution.
