Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons to fill the positions of
 

Dean, College of Education and Leadership

The incumbent will plan, direct, coordinate research, manage instructional and student administration and services; manage the budget and guide the strategic direction of the College.  He/she will provide quality learning opportunities that assist students in meeting their educational goals and career aspirations on a semester basis in a Christ-Centred educational environment in accordance with the philosophy and teachings of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Candidates should have an earned doctorate in Education, and demonstrated successful teaching experience. Successful full-time applicants will be expected to provide academic advising for students enrolled in the MA in Education and PhD in Education programmes, chair thesis and dissertation committees and participate in university-wide committees.
 

Qualifications and Experience Required

The ideal candidate for this position should have an earned doctoral degree in Education with seven years of teaching experience at the University level, expertise in at least one research orientation, and experience chairing and guiding the thesis and dissertation process.

The ideal candidates should have:

  • demonstrated ability to design and effectively teach graduate level courses
  • experience working in low and/or middle income countries.
  • an ability and desire to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary group of colleagues
  • demonstrated ability to conceptualize and carry out research in evaluating education programmes
  • proven ability to generate grant funding
  • competence in at least one research orientation and related software
  • competence in the supervision of graduate students

In addition to the above, the candidate should be knowledgeable of and committed to the philosophy, principles and mission of the Seventh-day Adventist church in education and give witness to these values in his/ her professional and Christian life.

 
SPECIFIC SKILLS OR COMPETENCIES
 

  •  Excellent interpersonal skills.  Ability to get along with diverse personalities, tactful and mature.
  •  Knowledge of principles and processes for providing quality assurance in an academic institution.
  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resource management, leadership techniques, and coordination of people and resources.
  • Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and teaching design.
  • Knowledge of principles and procedures for personnel recruitment, selection, performance evaluation, and personnel information systems.

  • Excellent communication skills, ability to write clear, concise and logical reports.
  • Excellent analytical, organisational and decision making skills.
  • Resourceful and well organized.
  • Ability to establish credibility and be decisive – but be able to recognize and support the organization’s preferences and priorities.

·         One Lecturer with competence in Curriculum and Instruction

·         One Lecturer with competence in Quantitative Research

·         One Lecturer with competence in Qualitative Research

The successful candidate will be required to provide quality learning opportunities that assist students in meeting their educational goals and career aspirations on a semester basis

Qualifications and Experience Required

The ideal candidate for this position should have an earned doctoral degree with the requisite area of competence and prior teaching experience at the Graduate Level

The ideal candidate should

  • Teach courses assigned, integrating faith and learning, modelling Servant leadership and research based Pedagogy.
  • Teach courses in  areas of competency, and research 
  • Prepares syllabi and other instructional materials in consultation with the Department Chair.
  • Evaluates students’ work, in keeping with the course outline and the grading system published in the University Bulletin, and submit all grades by the deadline stipulated by the University Registrar.
  • Participates as member of dissertation and theses committee.
  • Participates in robust recruitment and enrollment management activities
 

The incumbent must also have the ability to represent the University professionally and attractively to the public, generate good human relations with and among the workforce, and be well acquainted with, the practice the policies of the University and the Seventh-day Adventist denominational standards, be knowledgeable of, and committed to the philosophy, principles and mission of the Seventh day Adventist Church, and give witness to these values in his/her professional and Christian life.
